| Dog Owner's Credo |
I am fully responsible for the well-being and welfare of my
dog. I willingly entered into a covenant with my dog's breeder, for
the lifetime of my dog. By adhering to these needs and this covenant, I
expect my dog and I should have a most rewarding relationship together.
Well-being: to take a pro-active attitude towards keeping my dog as healthy as possible. This includes periodic veterinary visits, giving all recommended medications, and providing healthy, balanced meals and water on a daily schedule. I will provide my dog with suitable shelter, particularly to prevent heat prostration. Welfare: to provide an environment for my dog that allows him/her to be safe from harm, and encourages a content, emotionally balanced pet. I will provide my dog with sufficient, regular exercise so as to maintain a physically and mentally healthy pet. I am responsible for my pet's safety: I will endeavor to always be in control of my dog, both on and off my premises, and I will never allow physically hurtful treatment of my dog. My dog will not be bred and I will provide for the timely neutering of my dog unless specifically otherwise stated in writing by the dog's breeder.
Covenant with the breeder:
Should I at any time be unable to keep the dog or maintain it optimally
(according to the methods mentioned herein), I agree to contact the breeder
and give the breeder first option to take or purchase the dog. If the
breeder is unable to take the dog, I will work with the national and/or
regional BMD club to place the dog appropriately. We suggest that first time visitors to this site and all first time buyers read more about what this credo really means! |
