| Berners into the 21st Century A Mission Statement from the Internet Bernese Mountain Dog Consortium |
|
The Internet Bernese Mountain Dog Consortium (IBMDC) is composed of BMD fanciers who wish to provide BMD
owners, breeders and other BMD fanciers with resources of quality
information on the breed that can aid in making more informed decisions.
This information will be provided via the Internet.
The Bernese Mountain Dog is in danger of becoming too popular for its own good. At the same time new technology, particularly computerized communications such as the Internet, offer new means for people of similar interests but disparate backgrounds and locations to correspond and act for their mutual interests. We believe that this technology can and should be used to encourage the promulgation of wise breeding and rearing practices of BMDs. To this end we propose the use of Internet tools to help educate people who are interested in adding a Berner to their family and those with Berners to place in good homes, as well as to provide any other tools and sources of information on dog ownership. This process, the placing of puppies (and adults) is a critical part of maintaining the quality of the breed; it is also one of the most emotionally charged issues. It is not our intention to aid in the commercial process, nor to commercially benefit any individuals. We propose to maintain independently verifiable information for the use of both breeders and buyers. We will endeavor to provide very accurate information, and we wish to work closely with international, national, and regional clubs and other related organizations while remaining independent from them in order to limit any potential appearance of bias. (A useful analogy may be the US Underwriters Association which provides consumer product analysis and information but is wholly independent from product manufacturers.) To accomplish this mission :
